City of Riverside

IEP and the University of California are nestled in the safe and friendly city of Riverside.  Founded in 1870 as an agricultural community, Riverside had many firsts including the first orange trees planted in the United States, and the first golf course and polo field in Southern California. As the city prospered, a small guest hotel designed in the popular Mission Revival style grew to become the world famous Mission Inn.

In addition to welcoming numerous dignitaries, celebrities and movie stars, the Inn has hosted five United States presidents while they were in office. The Mission Inn also hosted the marriage of Richard and Pat Nixon and the honeymoon of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.

Today, with a population of over 290,000, the city of Riverside offers a warm and dry climate with cool nights. It is located 70 kilometers east of Los Angeles and within an hour’s drive of beaches, ski resorts, Disneyland, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Joshua Tree Park, Palm Springs and many other tourist attractions.

The city of Riverside, along with only nine other U.S. cities, was named an “All-American City” in 1998.
