IEP Absenteeism and Tardiness Policy – Effective Fall
2006

All new students and returning students
in good standing are limited to a total of 40 absence hours each
quarter. The number of allowable absences is calculated at the rate of one hour
per class per week. All returning students on Attendance Probation are
limited to a total of 25 absence hours in one quarter.
You are responsible for keeping track of your own
absences. (Students studying part-time* or who arrive late will have the
number of allowable absences reduced in proportion to the amount of time they
are here.)
*Absences allowed for part-time students

If you arrive to class...
1. 1-20
minutes late you will be marked tardy. Four separate late arrivals (in
one class) equal 1 hour of absence.
2. 20 or
more minutes late you will be marked absent 1 hour.
All absences are counted! There are no excuses. Instructors mark
each student's attendance in every class. These reports are turned in weekly,
so that absence hours can be entered into a database for accurate accounting.

If you receive a 2nd Warning, you must
report to the Associate Director.
If you receive a 3rd Warning, you must
report to the Associate Director.
If you exceed the maximum number of hours allowed,
you will not receive grades, and you will not be awarded a certificate.
If you exceed the maximum number of hours allowed
and wish to enroll for the following quarter, you must continue attending
classes, and your teachers must recommend that you be allowed to return. If you
are allowed to return the following quarter, you will be placed on Attendance
Probation and Academic Probation. If you do not continue attending classes: 1)
you will be dismissed; 2) your status in SEVIS will be terminated; and 3) you
will not be re-admitted for the following quarter.
Attendance
Probation
Attendance Probation
means that you are allowed only 25 (instead of 40) hours of absences. If you
are on Attendance Probation and exceed the 25-hour limit, you will be dismissed
and will not be allowed to re-enroll in the program for a year.
Academic Probation
If you receive two Ds or two Fs
or one D and one F during a quarter, you will be put on Academic Probation the
quarter you return. If you again receive
two Ds and/or Fs, you will not be able to re-enroll in the program for a year.
