AB 1802 Information
2006 is a memorable year in the history of professional school counseling! AB 1802, The Middle and High School Supplemental Counseling Program, provides funding of $200 million dollars for school counseling in California. The bill was signed into law in June 2006. The bill clearly identifies that the money may only be used to hire PPS credentialed school counselors. School counselors are expected to provide services as part of a school counseling program.
UCR Extension offers the PPS credential program with a specialization in school counseling and the PPS intern program. Certificate programs for practicing school counselors who wish to complete professional development are also offered. If you have thought about becoming a school counselor, this is the year to start! Our PPS application can be downloaded from our Web site. Please review our FAQ page, and if you have questions, please e-mail pps@ucx.ucr.edu or call (951) 827-1661.
Additional information related to AB 1802 is available on the California Association of School Counselors (CASC) Web site.
