Certificate in Teaching Advanced Placement Program* Courses
Completion Requirements
To earn the certificate, participants must successfully complete (with a letter grade B or better) 17 quarter units:
11 units of required courses and six units of content electives. Certificate program candidates must have
taught AP* courses for two years in order to receive the certificate.
Participants are required to complete two courses in the same academic content area. Content courses, other than those listed below, taken for upper division or graduate level credit at accredited institutions may be applied to the certificate with the approval of the Director of Education Extension.
The content courses will include in-depth content exploration, examination preparation and grading rubrics, integration of technology into AP* courses and methods for developing effective AP* programs in each content area. The content courses must be taken as upper division or graduate level coursework.
Transfer Credit
Up to four quarter units of credit from other institutions are permitted if the courses relate directly to the content
of certificate coursework and/or are taken from an endorsed College Board Institute. Applicable courses taken through
University Extension prior to application must have been taken within the last five years. Content courses may be taken at the upper division or graduate level. Requests for transfer credit must be in writing and official transcripts must accompany the request. The requests for transfer credit must be approved by the Director of Education Extension.
