Explores the use of entrepreneurial skills to initiate innovative responses to business needs, and opportunities evident in culture. Understanding the necessity of relational skills is important to the success of any entrepreneurial endeavor, and will be understood from the perspective of the entrepreneur’s need to:
- leverage new opportunities
- explore innovative approaches
- mobilize resource needs
- manage risk
- build a viable enterprise
Creating a business plan for a new venture will be the main focus.
Focuses on the idea that business ought to have a triple bottom line which includes profitability, social responsibility and environmental sustainability. Social entrepreneurship primarily rests on the importance of social benefit, and the areas of market failure (vacuum) brought about by globalization. You will study how entrepreneurship, in the social context, seeks to change the world’s big patterns for the good of all. You will learn to:
- understand social entrepreneurship at the beginning of the 21st century
- mobilize innovators through design thinking
- find and maintain self-sustaining sources of revenue
- create blended value for all stakeholders through the triple bottom line
- know "Social Entrepreneurs" as change agents
- understand the depth and meaning of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Focus will be on both the outcome of specific social entrepreneurial endeavors, and how current corporations view the concept of CSR. Together, we will examine where social entrepreneurship is currently positioned as it relates to for-profit organizations, not-for-profit organizations, and NGO’s (non-governmental organizations). You will utilize the Proof of Impact metrics associated with recent studies and literature.
The prerequisite to taking the Entrepreneurship course to complete your certificate program. As a function of completing the business plan, you will be required to create a financial plan. This includes producing a:
- balance sheet
- income statement
- statement of cash flow
The entrepreneur may not have started a business yet and as a result, these financial documents will be created on a pro-forma basis. You will learn to understand and easily complete the process.
Focuses on how to lead in a multicultural world. Explore the evolving role of cultural diversity in the workplace, and how to apply cultural comprehension to organizations. Learn about the tools leaders use in order to measure intercultural competence. Discussions include:
- understanding the basics of culture
- developing and implementing a multicultural vision
- managing cultural diversity
- the legal implications of diversity
- designing cultural learning programs
- solving problems and resolving conflict
- becoming more sensitive as a global manager
Learning will be augmented by readings from the GLOBE Research Project on Leadership Worldwide. The four readings from this study will integrate with readings from the text, in order to develop a richer understanding of the effect of culture upon leadership in our globalized marketplace.
Get acquainted with the post-modern global forces at work in today's world, in order to gauge the proper response by the entrepreneur, intrapreneur and social entrepreneur. Learn to manage in a globally competitive environment by emphasizing the use of institutions, cultures, and ethics, and explore the growing and internationalizing nature of business. Also, learn how to enter foreign markets, create networks, as well as understand the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in a global context. Other points of discussion include:
- the shift from modernity to a post-modern context
- why the global marketplace is seen as a "global village" that all participants and stakeholders can access
- managing industry competition
- how inequities have developed as a result of the "hidden hand" of globalization
- how the entrepreneur, intrapreneur and social entrepreneur may have a positive impact
Corporate-level strategies will be discussed which will focus on how large multinational corporate entities (MNE’s) diversify, acquire, and restructure around the world.
An in-depth review of imports and exports from a global perspective. Discussions include:
- understanding the global supply chain
- freight, logistics and specialized transportation issues
- risk management in international business
- technology in global trade
- developing resources in the import/export supply chain
- an essential overview of import/export compliance and documentation
You will also learn how to maintain a compliant and secure inbound chain, understand the regulatory challenges of the future, and the depth and meaning of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
"Intrapreneurship" consists of instilling an entrepreneurial spirit within the employees of an existing organization in order to encourage innovation and business growth. In this course, you will learn to understand how intrapreneurship functions within an organization. Relational skills are important to the success of any intrapreneurial endeavor, and will be understood from the perspective of a leader’s need to:
- leverage opportunities within the company
- explore innovative approaches
- mobilize resources
- manage risk
- sustain the enterprise
